About Hinduism

Hinduism is one of the most ancient religions in the world. This is one of the predominant religions in South Asia. The religion, Hinduism, is formed of various traditions and there is no single founder. The major scriptures on Hinduism are Upanisads, Puranas and the two great epics; Ramayana and Mahabaratha. The Bhagavad Gita; most sacred book of Hinduism is a part of Mahabaratha, spoken by Lord Krishna is of special importance.

The word Hindu is derived from Sanskrit word Sindu, the historical local term of the river Indus. As Swami Vivekananda said “The Hindu man drinks religiously, sleeps religiously, walks religiously, marries religiously, rob religiously.” Hinduism is not just a religion but a way of life. The Epics, Scriptures, Puranas and Vedas describes how a man should live with noble qualities.

The Bhagavad-Gita is considered to be one of the most popular and sacred religious scriptures of Hinduism. Hindus consider the Bhagavad-Gita as a direct message from Lord Vishnu in the avatar of Sree Krishna. This is told to us in the form of a long dialogue between Him and Arjuna in the middle of the battle field of Kurukshetra, where the epic battle of Mahabharat was fought. The Bhagavad-Gita tells us how we should conduct ourselves in our day to day life. Keeping God at the center of our awareness and activities, performing our duties with a sense of detachment and as a way of our sacrificial offering, and accepting God as the doer and facilitator and ourselves as mere instruments engaged in the act of liberation and self-realization. Those who read the Bhagavad-Gita regularly and with sincerity are believed to be benefited in many ways physically, materially, mentally and spiritually. The Bhagavad-Gita is more relevant even today as it was centuries ago as our lives have become more complex and challenging due to pressures of modern life.
